Founded in 1918, the Foreign Press Association (“FPA”) is the oldest association of foreign journalists in the United States of America.
The Foreign Press Association Scholarship Awards (“FPASA”) was established on the 75th Anniversary of FPA's formation to encourage the pursuit of a career in journalism by investing in the next generation of foreign correspondents.

The Scholarship Awards continue to contribute to the development of the next generation of international reporters.
A special Awards Committee appointed by the Foreign Press Foundation, (“FPF”), will seek out appropriate scholarship awardees based on the following criteria:
The FPA is now accepting applications for the 2020 Foreign Press Association Scholarship Awards from foreign students who graduate during 2020 or who will be studying in a graduate journalism program in the United States of America during 2020.
The application requires the submission of a commentary on a subject matter decided upon by the Awards Committee.
Cash scholarships, ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 (USD), will be awarded.
Applications will be judged on:
An impartial panel of journalists, editors, publishers, media directors, and other professionals will select the winning awards. Scholarship Awardees will be invited to receive their awards at the FPA’s Annual Dinner & Awards event in New York City, attended by an audience of global influencers in business, foreign affairs, and media.

The deadline for applications is 11.59 pm EDT on 15th of March, 2020
No late entries will be accepted.
Submissions through postal services or email will not be accepted.
All manuscripts should be in 12-point type, with one-inch margins, and sequentially numbered pages.
Multi-media is defined as one or a combination of the following genres: video, mixed media, radio broadcast, and/or photo essay.
All entries must be submitted in English.
Your submission must be in one of the following file forms: .doc, .pdf, .txt, .mp3, .mp4, or .mov.
Submission of scholarship application to the Foreign Press Foundation confirms authorization to publish applicant’s Op-Ed and/or multimedia presentation without expectation of compensation.
All decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
Winners are responsible for the tax implications of their awards.

- Is attending a U.S. graduate school of journalism during 2020.
- A record of excellence.
- A citizen of a foreign country.
- In need of financial aid.
The FPA is now accepting applications for the 2020 Foreign Press Association Scholarship Awards from foreign students who graduate during 2020 or who will be studying in a graduate journalism program in the United States of America during 2020.
The application requires the submission of a commentary on a subject matter decided upon by the Awards Committee.

- The submission response to the Op-Ed question.
- A short statement detailing how you will utilize your FPA Scholarship Award.

Eligibility Criteria
The FPA Scholarship Awards is open to individuals who are:
- Foreign nationals graduating in 2020 and studying in a graduate journalism program in the United States of America.
- Held or holding an F-1 or J-1 Visa during 2020
- Demonstrate an interest in and commitment to international affairs reporting.
Applicants MUST:
- Provide, either a written Op-Ed, (maximum 750 words), or in a multimedia format, (not exceeding 5 minutes viewing time, along with an overview of the multimedia presentation), a submission in answer to the following:
“What will it take for journalism to emerge from the 2020 U.S. election with a higher-level of trust? Share your perspective on the opportunities and challenges facing journalists to build trust and takeaways for the coverage of news in your home country.” - Compose a one-page statement indicating how a scholarship award will benefit their career plans and objectives. (Indicate why financial aid is needed, and list all scholarships and fellowships you have received towards your studies in the United States).
- Present evidence of enrollment in a graduate program of journalism during the 2019/2020 academic year
- Submit letters of reference.
A professor at the school of journalism, and also an editor of their recently published work. - Submit TWO samples of published or broadcast work. Printed articles shall not exceed 1000 words and multi-media shall not exceed 15 minutes. (If in a foreign language, please send an English translation).
- Submit a curriculum vitae. Outline academic background and previous experience in journalism, and detailing all scholarships and fellowships.
- Only applicants with F-1 and J-1 Visas during 2020 are eligible for consideration. A copy of the identity page of your passport, and your F-1 or J-1 Visa. Students of U.S.A. citizenship are not eligible for FPA scholarships.
- Confirm, on an honor basis, that a report will be submitted on the use of the scholarship award prior to the first anniversary of the award, along with a summary of subsequent career development.
