secretary pompeo - FPA RESPONSE

10/21/2020

FPA President Ian Williams makes this statement in response to Secretary Pompeo:

Without making any claims for the independence of the PRC media, the FPA warns Secretary Pompeo of the poet’s wish “to see ourselves as others see us.” He is opening the door for restrictions on other state affiliated media, from the VOA to BBC or Canadian Broadcasting, not to mention partisan proprietorial controlled media whose objectivity is often questioned. The FPA deplores such restrictions on media outlets.  The odious comparison puts the US in danger of making Beijing look like a champion of the free press!
