Founded in 1918, the Foreign Press Association (“FPA”) is the oldest association of foreign journalists in the United States of America. This year, the philanthropic arm of the FPA, the The Foreign Press Foundation, will celebrate its 30th Anniversary of our awards and scholarship program to support the next generation of foreign correspondents.

To mark this important milestone, we are introducing a new fellowship program which will offer an FPA fellowship and financial award to between three and five exceptional students. The fellowship will include mentoring and support from FPA members, the opportunity to contribute to the mission of the FPA, and financial awards that start at $1000.

The selection of winners will be based on the following criteria:
  • Applicants are enrolled at a U.S. graduate school of journalism during the 2022-2023 or 2023-2024 academic years
  • Citizen of a foreign country
  • Write an opinion article or submit a multimedia presentation
  • Have a record of journalistic excellence
  • Write a statement on how they will leverage the Fellowship / funds to support their career

The FPA is now accepting applications for the 2023 Foreign Press Association Fellowships through April 17th.

An impartial panel of journalists, editors, publishers, media directors, and other professionals will select the winning awards.  Fellowship Awardees will be invited to receive their awards at the FPA’s Annual Awards Presentation in New York City.
